OVERVIEW

Platinum Electricians was contracted to handle the installation of solar PV systems across 11 Court Houses as part of the Department of Communities and Justice's initiative to leverage renewable energy. This project was divided into several tranches to efficiently manage installations spanning different locations across Sydney, Northern NSW and the Central West.

SCOPE

The project's scope included the supply, installation, and commissioning of solar PV systems specifically optimised for each location to maximise energy efficiency and sustainability. The key tasks detailed in the project included logistics handling, site preparation, electrical and mechanical installation, commissioning, and post-installation reviews.

PROJECT EXECUTION

  • Logistics and Preparation
  • Installation Process
  • Safety Measures
  • Post Installation

Logistics and Preparation

  • Equipment and Material Supply: All solar panels and system components were procured from high-quality suppliers with proven track records in durability and efficiency, particularly solar panels known for their robust performance and longevity.
  • Site Access and Setup: Prior to the installations, each site was prepared with appropriate safety signage, barriers, and access limitations to secure installation zones as per safety standards.

Installation Process

  • Edge Protection and Site Setup: Initial steps involved setting up edge protection systems to ensure the safety of workers on the roof areas where installations took place.
  • Mechanical Installations: This phase included structural engineering required for mounting the solar panels securely using specialised rail systems.
  • Electrical Installations:
  • Inverter Installation: Secure and strategic placement of inverters to optimise system efficiency.
  • Battery Installation: Installation of various sized back up battery systems to store unused excess solar energy.
  • Wiring and Connectivity: Detailed and secure wiring work to connect solar panels to inverters and main building systems, ensuring robust energy transmission and system integration.
  • System Testing: Each system installation was followed by comprehensive testing to verify correct installation and operational efficiency.

Safety Measures

  • Compliance Checks: Routine audits and checks were conducted to ensure all installation processes adhered to the local safety standards and building regulations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining detailed records of all procedures, adjustments, and compliance measures throughout the installation phase.

Post Installation

  • System Commissioning: Following the physical installation, systems were activated and underwent initial testing phases to confirm their operational status and efficiency metrics met all project requirements.
  • Monitoring Systems Setup: Installation of monitoring hardware to continuously assess the performance of the solar systems, including real-time data on output and efficiency to ensure longevity and performance standards are maintained.
  • Final Documentation and Client Handover:
  • Operational Manuals and Diagrams: Providing comprehensive documentation including detailed as-built diagrams, equipment specifications, and operational guidelines.
  • Warranty and Maintenance Information: All systems were handed over with clear warranty information, detailed maintenance schedules, and guidelines for future upkeep.
